Product Overview
Universal Buddy Breather: Emergency Breathing Air Support for Firefighters
- Although a Universal Emergency Breathing Supply System (UEBSS) — better known as the Buddy Breather — is not required, it’s an option that many Fire Departments choose to include. It’s also used in industrial facilities that use SCBA equipment for respiratory protection and emergency response,
- The Buddy Breather enables two people to share a single source of air and comes with a pouch containing 40 inches of hose along with a universal male and female connector that can be added to any SCBA unit.
-
The UEBSS is a standardized connection specified by NFPA, allowing interoperability between different manufacturers and models of SCBAs.
-
The optional Buddy Breather Keeps an emergency breathing supply system within easy reach
-
In an emergency, access to breathing air can be a critical consideration for rescue operations. A properly configured Buddy Breather system provides an additional air-sharing capability that can be incorporated into respiratory protection equipment and emergency response procedures.

Selecting a Buddy Breather
- Before ordering, confirm the required configuration with your SCBA manufacturer or qualified respiratory protection equipment specialist. Compatibility, approved connections, operating procedures, training, and applicable requirements must be established for the complete breathing apparatus system.
- A Buddy Breather is an accessory, not a standalone source of breathing air. Its use depends on the connected breathing apparatus, available air supply, compatible components, and the manufacturer’s instructions.
